BRELA Research in Economics and Legal Analytics

Dr Justus Baron is the Director and Founder of BRELA Research in Economics and Legal Analytics, a research and consulting firm dedicated to the study of standards and patents. BRELA produces studies and reports and offers assistance with FRAND determinations and SEP Licensing. Justus also is Founder and Director of FRANDLY, a novel solution for data and analytics on SEP Licensing. Additionally, Justus is a Research Director in Economics at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law. His research focuses on technological innovation, standardization, and intellectual property rights, and has been published in leading scholarly journals.

Justus served as a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Standard Essential Patents (SEP) and led a consortium assisting the Commission with an Impact Assessment of its proposed SEP Regulation. He has frequently been consulted by government bodies on SEPs and standardization.
