Bernd Laqua studied computer science at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, with focus on artificial intelligence, business intelligence, distributed systems and software engineering. In parallel, he also completed the management-oriented graduate program Technology Management at the Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM) in Munich, Germany, which is part of the Elite Network of Bavaria. After graduation, Bernd Laqua was active as an entrepreneur and established businesses in the fields of high frequency trading of financial instruments as well as chart trading of financial instruments, where he became acquainted with intellectual property.

After transferring the business to another company, Bernd Laqua commenced his legal and practical training at Wuesthoff & Wuesthoff, one of the leading German and European intellectual property law firms. He is admitted as German Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and Representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC), and is partner at Wuesthoff & Wuesthoff since 2018. Bernd Laqua has deep expertise in all aspects of patent practice and his current activities focus on prosecuting patents as well as on handling opposition, appeal and litigation cases. His technical focus includes the fields of computer technology, wireless communication, robotics and medical engineering. As a special expertise, Bernd Laqua has extensive experience in the field of software-related inventions, especially involving artificial intelligence in various fields of application.
