Johanna Dwyer is the CEO and founder of QipWorks, a strategic intellectual property consulting firm that empowers businesses to secure, manage, and leverage their intellectual assets. At QipWorks, she has worked with clients from start ups to multinational companies across a range of technical fields to develop robust IP portfolios, support licensing negotiations with technical evidence, and create IP strategies that drive sustainable business growth. She has served as a technical expert in patent litigations involving wireless communications, developing simulations to quantify technical benefits and inform valuation.
Before founding QipWorks, Ms. Dwyer led Federated Wireless into the emerging field of spectrum sharing, helping position the company for a valuation exceeding $250 million. Earlier, she founded the Innovation Lab for Saudi Aramco, where she built IP strategy and commercialization processes, advised corporate venture funds, and negotiated global collaborations. She spent 12 years at BlackBerry, where she developed end-to-end systems for identifying, managing, and monetizing IP assets, enabling new licensing and commercialization opportunities.
Ms. Dwyer holds an engineering degree from Queen’s University and an MBA from MIT. She is a Certified Licensing Professional, a Senior Member of the IEEE, and serves on the Board of Editors for Research-Technology Management. She is a named inventor on more than 400 patents and applications worldwide and has published several papers related to intellectual property and innovation. She has been recognized by Intellectual Asset Management at a top IP strategist in the world since 2017.
