Karthika Perumal is a Technology Transactions Partner with Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP and also serves as Office Managing Partner of the firm’s Houston office. Her practice involves all aspects of technology law with an emphasis on the protection, acquisition, and monetization of intellectual property. She advises clients on patent and transactional matters in the energy and life science sectors across a wide range of technologies, such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, oil and gas processing, automated systems, digital twins, and software. Karthika has deep expertise in structuring technology-based transactions and critical operational agreements, including multiparty collaborations, joint ventures, cross border manufacturing, supply, and distribution arrangements, and software development, service, and support agreements.
She has developed commercialization strategies for several complex IP portfolios and has participated in the structuring and financing of several startup companies. She also guides clients on freedom to operate assessments, clearance searches, and IP diligence issues in M&A transactions and other strategic corporate initiatives. She is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) and a Past-President and Past-Chair of Licensing Executives Society (LES) USA & Canada (2022-2023) and has written extensively on IP licensing issues. She has been recognized in the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners, in the 2025 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and by U.S. News in the Best Lawyers in America® 2024 edition for Technology Law and Trade Secrets Law.
