Paul Carpenter is Partner at QipWorks, a strategic intellectual property consulting firm that empowers businesses to secure, manage, and leverage their intellectual assets.
QipWorks’ clients range from Fortune Global 500 companies to SMEs, and they operate in fields ranging from wireless telecommunications to video streaming platforms to biotechnology and immunology. QipWorks integrates advanced data analytics capabilities, enabling the development of robust evidence of use for licensing and litigation and enabling data driven support for litigation expert testimony.
Mr. Carpenter has extensive success defending against aggressive IP assertions by practicing and non-practicing entities and has instigated and led IP programs designed to bring rigor and focus to high-potential intellectual assets. He led the development of globally adopted wireless telecom standards and is inventor on 30+ patent families, including 9 declared as essential for wireless cellular standards.
Mr. Carpenter previously played a fundamental role in advancing BlackBerry’s foundational patent portfolio. He instigated and led multiple IP programs bringing diligence to high-value assets. He was integral to the monetization of this portfolio developing 100’s of litigation-ready claim charts.
Mr Carpenter holds an MSc in Management of Intellectual Property from Queen Mary University of London and an MBA in Engineering Management from the University of Bradford. He also holds an MSc in Radio Communications Engineering and BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Leeds. He has been recognized as a top intellectual property strategist by the Intellectual Asset Management group since 2017.
