Mr. Wei Shi is the Director of the Corporate Business Development Department at Xiaomi, where he leads efforts in patent acquisition, evaluation, and licensing. In October 2024, he was elected Chairman of the Automotive, Electric Vehicle, and Aerospace Committee of the Licensing Executives Society (U.S. & Canada). Mr. Shi is also a named inventor on more than 60 patents worldwide.
Prior to joining Xiaomi, Mr. Shi was a partner at Zhigu, where he was responsible for patent asset investment and operations. Notably, he established China’s first IP operation fund, the Ruichuang Patent Operation Fund, in 2014. Before his tenure at Zhigu, Mr. Shi worked at Intellectual Ventures in Seattle, where he managed patent acquisition funds. As Head of Patent Acquisition for the Hardware Business Unit, he led the valuation and acquisition of thousands of patent portfolios, with a total value exceeding USD 1 billion.
Mr. Shi began his career in the semiconductor industry, gaining over five years of experience in R&D, product development, and manufacturing in both Mainland China and Singapore. In 2001, he joined Chipworks in Ottawa, Canada, as a Technical and Patent Analyst, and later served as Senior Program Manager, overseeing patent consulting, licensing, and litigation support services for multiple Fortune 500 high-tech companies.
Mr. Shi graduated from Southeast University in China in 1995 with an Engineering Degree in Electronics Engineering.
